My other drummer friends and I were big fans of Steve Gadd (especially the Chick Corea stuff), Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Chad Wackerman, Dave Weckl, Omar Hakim, and on and on. And we used to practice and play a lot together.
Here I am noodling around on my noisy 90's technology gear, playing with some of the loops I used to have fun with many years ago. Mercifully, they're each only about a minute long. (If you look closely, you can see my dogs in there too.)
A "parody" of a 5/4 groove from Wackerman's Forty Reasons album.
5/8 twist on a canned Roland shuffle funk loop. (That's Timmy at the left.)
11/8, one note shy of a full shuffle (and it's only a "one bar" blues).
17/16 mock up of Corea's Morning Sprite. (That's Bobo at the left.)
